FUPRE Senate Announces New Academic Directives Following Recent Student Unrest

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), has issued a new set of directives affecting all undergraduate students, following the recent unrest that disrupted academic activities on campus.

The resolutions were reached during an emergency Senate meeting held last week, and formally communicated through a notice signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Senate, Dr. (Mrs.) E. Jane Omoyine.

According to the statement, the university’s Senate has scheduled students in 100, 200, and 300 levels to sit for their examinations a week prior to the resumption of the 2025/2026 academic session in November. This staggered arrangement is aimed at reducing further disruptions and ensuring an orderly return to academic stability.

In addition, FUPRE has mandated that all students must present a letter of undertaking committing to good behavior before being allowed to register for the new session. The move underscores the institution’s resolve to instill discipline and prevent a recurrence of actions that led to property damage and campus disturbances.

The university has also placed a restriction on vehicular access by undergraduates, stating that no student will be allowed to drive any personal vehicle into the campus, effective October 31, 2025. This measure is believed to be part of broader efforts to strengthen campus security and ensure better supervision of student activities.

Furthermore, each student is now required to pay a sum of ₦7,500 as a levy to cushion the costs incurred by the university while managing the aftermath of the unrest, particularly the repairs of affected facilities and security interventions.

The notice emphasized that the resolutions are binding and require full compliance from all students. It also reassured the university community that these actions are aimed at restoring peace, safeguarding institutional property, and maintaining an environment conducive to academic excellence.

The management encouraged students to adhere to the new guidelines as the university works to fully restore normalcy on campus.
