Galatasaray Coach Defends Osimhen Absence, Confirms Friday Return

Galatasaray’s coach Okan Buruk has confirmed that Nigerian international Victor Osimhen will return to action on Friday against Karagumruk, amidst ongoing issues concerning a Turkish mosque associated with his record transfer.

The Yellow and Reds manager defended his decision to omit Osimhen from the squad in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Gaziantep, explaining that the forward needed extra time to reach full fitness.

“Osimhen had a training period of five or six days,” Buruk said, according to CNN Turk.

“Participating during that time could have been risky for him. I spoke with him, and he indicated that he was considering resting for this match while aiming to play in the next.”

The 26-year-old striker, who joined the Istanbul team from Napoli this summer for a record €75m fee, arrived late for pre-season training due to prolonged negotiations regarding his transfer.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles player has found himself at the center of an unexpected issue shortly after arriving in Turkey. As reported by Fanatik, the Bulut Mosque in Konya’s central Karatay district, established in 2008, has been incorrectly listed on Google Maps as ‘Victor Osimhen Mosque.’

This surprising renaming has sparked complaints from congregants, who are requesting that the original name be restored.

A member of the mosque said, “We have been attending Bulut Mosque since we moved here. We oppose it being renamed to Victor Osimhen. The name Victor Osimhen is a Christian name. As mosque attendees, we ask the authorities to resolve this issue.”

Another member noted, “Online, the location shows the mosque is named after Victor Osimhen, but it has been known as Bulut Mosque for 10 years. Everyone recognizes this place by that name.

He is not a player associated with Konyaspor. He has not made any positive contributions to the mosque, and he is not someone who will be easily remembered in Konya. We do not see the relevance to this.”
