Jubilation erupted in Effurun as Igbos unite to mark Igbo Day 2025, celebrating their cultural heritage, unity, and togetherness, while honoring the heroes who fought to preserve Igbo identity.
The ceremony, held on Monday in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, drew people from various tribes and cultures who came together to witness and celebrate with the Igbo community
The Igbo day is celebrated every 29th of September, globally. During this celebration, the Igbo’s globally come together to honour their past and fallen heroes who have sacrificed for the country and the Igbo nation.
Speaking to your Citinews sub-editor, the Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Non-indigene Traders (Delta Central and South Senatorial districts), Hon. Sunny Chuka Okeke giving a detailed explanation of the Igbo culture said “the purpose of this gathering today is all about the Igbo nation. This is the 21st anniversary of the Igbo day and it is celebrated 29th of September globally.
“So here in Delta State in the city of Effurun, we have come out to celebrate our culture, heritage, togetherness, unity. you can see the display of igbo culutre with masqurade, antilogu dancers, club members, native foods, palm wine.
Hon. Okeke however expressed gratitude for the weather, saying that it didnt disrupt the celebration.
Speaking further on the ceremony, the Ohaneze Financial Secretary, Women Wing Mrs Nkiru Aganelo said “Today is a memorable day for all Igbos all over the world. we are celebrating the fallen heros, both those alive and dead.
“29th September is always a memorable day to all Igbos globally. If you look closely, many Igbo shop owners have closed their businesses to attend the celebration, fully aware of its significance in Igbo history” she added.
Highlight of the ocassion was the giving of awards to respetable and honourable dignitries, display of igbo native food, masqurades, antilogu dancers, amongst other activites.
