Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will continue to govern with fairness and inclusivity, steering clear of ethnic politics that undermine unity and progress, the state government has assured.
The clarification came from the Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, in response to social media claims by activist Israel Akpodoro, who alleged that Governor Oborevwori was “wasting the Urhobo slot” in the state’s power rotation arrangement.
Oghenesivbe dismissed the allegation as baseless, stressing that the governor, though a proud son of Urhobo Nation, would never reduce governance to ethnic favoritism at the expense of justice, equity, and the collective development of Delta State.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Oghenesivbe noted that Delta now ranks as the fourth-largest economy in Nigeria, driven by strategic investments in agriculture, rural electrification, clean energy, sports development, and major infrastructure projects. These include the multi-billion-naira flyovers being executed by Julius Berger across Delta Central, North, and South.
He added that over 850,000 residents have benefited from the D-CARES programme and other social investment schemes, while youth empowerment initiatives through vocational training and starter packs have lifted thousands from poverty into sustainable livelihoods.
The Communications DG emphasized that Urhobo people, alongside Delta North and South citizens, are direct beneficiaries of these programmes, urging constructive criticism instead of unfounded accusations.
“All of Governor Oborevwori’s legacy projects and achievements from 2023 to 2031 will stand as credit to the Urhobo slot in governance, while also being a source of pride to every Deltan,” Oghenesivbe said.
He concluded by reaffirming that Oborevwori governs for all ethnic groups, guided by equity and the fear of God. “He knows the game of politics and leadership. The dividends of democracy—the Ukodo—will surely go round,” Oghenesivbe assured.
