Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, joined dignitaries and residents of the capital city on Thursday to celebrate the 70th birthday thanksgiving of His Royal Majesty, Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, the revered Asagba of Asaba.
The thanksgiving service, held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, West End, Asaba, drew a distinguished congregation that included traditional rulers, political leaders, clergy, and members of the Asaba community, who gathered to honor the monarch’s life of scholarship, leadership, and service.
Governor Oborevwori, in his remarks, described the Asagba as a “pillar of wisdom and peace” whose reign has fostered unity and development in Asaba and across Delta State.
He commended the monarch’s contributions to education, law, and cultural preservation, noting that his legacy as a scholar and traditional leader continues to inspire younger generations.
The governor further prayed for God’s continued guidance and strength for the royal father, urging indigenes to uphold the values of peace and progress championed by the Asagba throughout his reign.
In his homily, the officiating priest extolled Obi Azinge’s humility, compassion, and commitment to community development, emphasizing that leadership grounded in faith and service remains the foundation of enduring impact.
The thanksgiving celebration featured choral renditions, prayers of gratitude, and cultural presentations in tribute to the monarch’s milestone birthday.
Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters, ascended the throne as the Asagba of Asaba after a distinguished career in academia and public service.
His 70th birthday was marked not just as a personal milestone but as a celebration of visionary leadership and cultural pride in the Delta State capital.
