Governor Oborevwori Pays Tribute to Late Elder Gilbert Ibegbulem

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, joined dignitaries and well-wishers from across the country to bid farewell to the late Elder Gilbert Okafor Ibegbulem, father of former Principal Secretary to ex-Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Dr. Hilary Obi Ibegbulem.

The funeral service held at Ute-Okpu Grammar School, Ika North East Local Government Area, drew an eminent crowd of political leaders, clerics, and community figures who gathered to celebrate the life of the 89-year-old patriarch.

Described as a man of faith, humility, and integrity, the late Elder Ibegbulem was eulogized for his steadfast devotion to God and his unwavering commitment to family and community development.

In his tribute, Governor Oborevwori extolled the virtues of the late Elder Ibegbulem, describing him as “an exceptional man whose wisdom and discipline touched countless lives.” The Governor emphasized the deceased’s belief in education as the greatest legacy a parent could bestow.

“Papa understood the power of education. He raised his children with discipline, love, and strong values,” Oborevwori stated. Quoting from 2 Timothy 4:7–8, he noted that Elder Ibegbulem “fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.”

The Governor likened the elder’s passing to “the loss of a great library of wisdom,” adding that his principles and humility would continue to inspire future generations. He commended Dr. Hilary Ibegbulem for upholding his father’s virtues, noting that the large turnout of mourners reflected the life of service and integrity Pa Ibegbulem lived.

Addressing parents, Governor Oborevwori urged them to raise independent and God-fearing children. “The best gift you can give your children is to make them self-reliant while you are still alive. That is true legacy,” he advised.

Delivering the sermon titled “The Love of God,” Venerable Patrick Okoh reminded the congregation that life after death is eternal for believers in Christ. He praised the late Elder Ibegbulem for his devotion to God and his community, assuring that he had “earned eternal rest in Christ.”

The cleric also called on leaders to let divine love guide their service to humanity, stressing that such virtue fosters justice, unity, and national progress.

The solemn yet celebratory event attracted an impressive lineup of dignitaries, including former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife, Dame Edith Okowa; Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; Senator James Manager; former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (rtd.); business mogul, Chief Jide Omokore; Senator Dino Melaye; and other national and state legislators.

The ceremony was marked by heartfelt tributes, hymns, and reflections that painted a portrait of a devout Christian, community builder, and devoted family man. As the late Elder Gilbert Ibegbulem was laid to rest, his legacy of faith, education, and integrity stood tall as an enduring beacon for generations to come.
