Governor Oborevwori Urges Nigerians to Take Collective Responsibility in Building a Better Nation

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians to embrace a renewed sense of patriotism and personal responsibility in the collective effort to make the country better.

Speaking in Asaba during a courtesy visit by the Delta State Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Edet Ufot, the Governor emphasized that the nation’s progress depends largely on citizens’ attitudes and commitment to doing the right thing.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, Governor Oborevwori urged Nigerians to develop a positive mindset toward nation-building, stressing that the transformation of Nigeria requires both leadership integrity and civic responsibility.

“We all live in Nigeria and desire the good things we see in other countries,” he said. “Those nations didn’t develop overnight their people built them through hard work, discipline, and collective sacrifice. It is time we do the same here.”

He commended the ICPC for its continuous enlightenment campaigns across the country, particularly its engagement with schools and public institutions, and assured the Commission of his administration’s unwavering support in the fight against corruption.

Earlier, Mr. Ufot outlined the ICPC’s core mandates of investigation, prosecution, prevention, and public enlightenment, adding that the Commission had launched anti-corruption awareness programs in several federal and state institutions, as well as established over 60 anti-corruption clubs in secondary schools across Delta State.

He revealed that the Commission had also investigated certain public officers found culpable of corrupt practices and expressed optimism that stronger collaboration with the state government would enhance transparency and accountability.
Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s stance on integrity, accountability, and attitudinal change, noting that such values are essential to achieving the vision of a greater and more prosperous Nigeria.
