Human rights advocate and Founder of the Safe City Volunteer Foundation, Harrison Gwamnishu, has regained his freedom after spending two weeks in detention, expressing gratitude to supporters, legal counsel, and the police for their professionalism throughout the process.
In a statement released after his return, Gwamnishu confirmed that he had been released from custody and thanked members of the public for the overwhelming support he received during the period.
He clarified that he was neither invited nor arrested by the police, explaining that he voluntarily presented himself for investigation in line with his commitment as a law-abiding citizen.
According to him, no charges have been filed against him, as the matter remains under review by the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
He described the experience as challenging but reassuring, noting that he was treated with care and respect while the investigation lasted.
Gwamnishu extended special appreciation to his legal team, including Barrister Olayiwola Afolabi, SAN, Barrister Dele Igbinedion, Barrister Favour Ajuebor, and Barrister Awele Ideal, praising their professionalism and dedication in securing his release.
Despite his long-standing advocacy against police brutality, he commended the Edo State Commissioner of Police for what he described as wisdom and professionalism.
He also acknowledged the investigation team led by CSP Osagie for their guidance and humane conduct during his detention.
Meanwhile, Harrison Gwamnishu shared a video capturing his warm welcome by residents upon his return today, showing community members cheering and celebrating his release after two weeks in custody. The reception reflected the strong public support he enjoys for his advocacy and community work.
He concluded by thanking everyone who stood by him throughout the ordeal, describing their support as an important part of his journey and reaffirming his commitment to justice, accountability, and community safety.
