Historic Crowning in Olomu Kingdom: Alaka-Eyanvwien I Ascends The Throne as 14th Ohworode

Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State witnessed an unforgettable moment on Saturday, November 15, 2025, as His Royal Majesty Albert Akpomudje, SAN, was formally crowned Alaka-Eyanvwien I, becoming the 14th Ohworode of the ancient kingdom.

The event, steeped in rich cultural rites and symbolism, coincided with the monarch’s birthday, adding a celebratory dimension to an already momentous day.

The coronation began at Otorere the ancestral cradle of the kingdom where traditional rites were performed before the procession moved to Akperhe-Olomu for the main ceremony.

At Eyanvwien Hall, the new king received the crown from Olorogun Philip Korobor Atuduhor, Okpako r’ Illorogun, in accordance with long-standing customs.

The consecration was conducted by Bishop (Dr.) Cyril Odutemu of the Anglican Communion, accompanied by 21 thunderous cannon shots announcing the new monarch’s rise.

In his first formal address, Alaka-Eyanvwien I expressed profound appreciation to the ruling houses, chiefs, and citizens for their support.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serve as a “servant-leader,” promising to uphold the kingdom’s heritage, foster unity, and champion development across Olomu communities.

The king’s title bears deep historical significance, tracing its roots to Eyanvwien, the first son of Alaka and foundational leader of the kingdom.

After the crowning rites, a ceremonial motorcade escorted the monarch to Oviri-Olomu, home of the Eyanvwien Ruling House.

There, 14 cannon shots representing his position as the 14th Ohworode rang out before he was received in his palace for a vibrant reception.

The occasion attracted an impressive array of dignitaries, including Delta Central Senator Ede Dafinone, respected judges, senior advocates like Chief Thompson Okpoko, SAN, and Chief (Dr.) Charles Edosomwan, SAN, prominent business figures, and community associations.

Bishop Odutemu lauded the event as spiritually and culturally significant, describing the new monarch as the third Anglican king in Olomu’s history.

With Alaka-Eyanvwien I now enthroned, residents and well-wishers hailed the ceremony as the beginning of a new era of peace, unity, and progressive leadership for the historic kingdom.
