The Delta State SUBEB boss also revealed that the SBMC is a nationwide initiative of the Universal Basic Education Commission, or UBEC, which aims to return ownership, care, and protection of all public primary and basic schools in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to the local residents.

“What we are doing now is inauguration of the State Executive of the School Based Management Committee. At a later date, we will inaugurate the Committee at local government levels.

“The State Executive is therefore expected to before the end of the year ensure that all public primary schools in the state have their respective committees in place.

“The aim is to take ownership of the schools, provide the needed verve to pilot academic development, infrastructural revolutions and champion the drive for greater accomplishments in public schools across the state”, Mariere said.

The Subeb Boss, flanked by the three Members of the Board, Chukwuemeka Uwadia, Onome Akpoherhe, and Josephine Edheren as well as the Permanent Secretary, Byron Unini and Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman, Justice Iyasere, charged the Committee to demonstrate professionalism in the task before them.

“This State Executive of SBMC is carefully selected to ensure that the goals of His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori in this regard are achieved.

“I therefore charge members to demonstrate the needed commitment to ensure that public schools in the state take their pride of place by helping the schools authority to manage issues, pursue physical development, enforce discipline and return the schools to their glorious past when public schools were the delight of every parents instead of spending their hard-earned money in private schools with less quality teachers and basic infrastructures”. Hon Mariere stressed.

He said that important players in the primary and basic education subsector, including as school administrators, community leaders, NUT, and AOPSHON, were among those who were selected for the newly established SBMC State Executive.

As long as the Committee is dedicated and focused on changing things, Hon. Mariere promised that the Board will give them the encouragement and assistance they need to carry out their responsibilities.
