Idjerhe Communities Issue SOS to Governor Oborevwori as Deteriorating Roads Become ‘Death Traps’

Residents of several communities in Idjerhe Kingdom, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, have once again issued a Save Our Soul (SOS) appeal to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori over the deteriorating condition of roads in the area.

Speaking in separate interviews, locals who preferred not to be named expressed deep frustration over the worsening state of roads, particularly the stretch from Idjerhe Roundabout to the main market. They described the situation as dangerous and life-threatening.

Many wondered why the roads have been left to decay for so long, questioning whether leaders from the kingdom are aware of the hardship faced by their people. They specifically mentioned the Chairman of DESOPADEC, Hon. John Obukowho Nani, an influential political figure from Idjerhe, asking why he has not intervened.

One resident said, “I doubt if Hon. John Nani has seen the worst parts of these roads.” Others also questioned whether Hon. Halims Agoda, who has represented the area multiple times in the House of Representatives, has witnessed the deplorable condition firsthand.
“You can’t call yourself a political heavyweight when your people are suffering,” another added. “Look at this road are we supposed to live like this when we have people in government?”

Residents noted that the affected road is a major link between several communities and leads to the kingdom’s main market, where farmers bring produce and buyers travel from far and wide. They said it has been in terrible condition for over a year.

“We can barely pass through,” a resident lamented. “Please help us appeal to Governor Oborevwori we are suffering.”

While acknowledging that the governor cannot be everywhere or know everything happening across the state, the people called on political leaders especially Hon. John Nani, Hon. Halims Agoda, Hon. Blessing Achoja, and others to take urgent action before more lives are endangered.

They also appealed to Governor Oborevwori to instruct the Commissioner for Information and Works (Rural Roads), Hon. Charles Aniagwu, to urgently rehabilitate the road.

The community recalled that Bailout Magazine had previously reported their complaints weeks earlier, but the situation has only continued to worsen with each passing day.
