Ika South LG bans iron condemn scavengers

Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State has banned the activities of scrap and metal scavengers, popularly known as ‘Iron Condemn’.

This was disclosed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the local government, Mr. Kainji Aluge Obia, and made available to the press.

He said the suspension was due to the illegal and criminal activities attributed to some of the scavengers.

Following the suspension, the local government warned that anybody found engaging in scavenging within the local government area would be arrested by law enforcement agents for prosecution.

The move by the local government followed an observed surge in the incidence of illegal and criminal activities traceable to some of those involved in scavenging activities.

Recall that the scavengers were once directed to participate in documentations by the local government, but the measure seemed not to resolve their alleged criminal activities.
