Illbliss Pens Advice for Young Musicians

Veteran Nigerian rapper Illbliss, also known as Oga Boss, called on upcoming musicians to avoid depending solely on their musical talents, urging them to acquire additional skills or side jobs to sustain themselves financially.

The advice came in response to a viral clip featuring music executive Ayo Animashaun, who revealed that despite perceptions of Nigerian artists making huge fortunes, only a handful actually achieve significant financial success.

“A lot of artists are not making money. You say artists are making money—you can’t count ten,” Animashaun stated

Echoing the sentiment, Oga Boss took to X (formerly Twitter) to caution young artists, writing: “Dear Upcoming… Little advice from IllBliss: Learn a skill or find a second and third hustle that will help you keep the lights on.”

His remarks highlight the financial challenges many artists face in the industry, emphasising the need for multiple income streams beyond music.
