INEC Chairman Urged to Address Key Issues in Warri Federal Constituency

The Ijaw Youth Council of the Gbaramatu clan has called on the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, to implement the results of the recent ward redelineation exercise in Warri federal constituency, describing it as a crucial step toward lasting peace in the area.

In a statement signed by Oyinkuro Wazo Zikurebai, Chairman; Tracy Lawei Edolo, Secretary; and Ari Ebimotimi, Information Officer, the council also urged the INEC chairman to suspend the ongoing continuous voters registration exercise in the federal constituency, noting that it is currently being conducted using outdated boundaries.

The group urged Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, to begin implementing the findings of the recent constituency delineation exercise carried out across Warri Federal Constituency in July 2024.

“We call for an immediate suspension of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Warri Federal Constituency until the new boundaries outlined in the July 2024 report are officially gazetted and put into effect,” the statement read.

The group warned that INEC’s failure to take prompt action on the matter would constitute a serious injustice to the people of Warri and could undermine the credibility of the judicial system. “Neglecting to act decisively would not only perpetuate a significant injustice against the people of Warri but also seriously compromise the integrity of our emerging judicial system,” it added.
