INEC Kicks Off Continuous Voter Registration in Delta, Opens 51 Centres Across the State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started the in-person phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Delta State. To make the process accessible, two registration centres have been set up in each of the 25 local government areas, along with an extra centre at the state headquarters in Asaba.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Delta State, Sir Etekamba Umoren, shared this information in Asaba while leading his team to oversee the first day of the registration exercise in Oshimili South and Aniocha South local government areas.

Umoren stated that all necessary equipment and materials have been sent to the designated centres, and trained staff are on hand to ensure the process runs smoothly. He emphasized the crucial role of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) in Nigeria’s elections and encouraged eligible residents to make use of the registration opportunity.

The Head of Voter Education in Delta State, Mrs. Nseabasi Udom, explained that the registration exercise is meant for citizens who have just turned 18, first-time voters, and those who need to update or correct their details. She noted that while certain updates can be made online, new registrants are required to show up in person for their biometric capture.

At the Oshimili South centre, a registrant, Mrs. Blessing Kamkwu, shared her satisfaction with the process, saying, “It’s fine by me—the line is moving.”

On the other hand, Mr. Ameachi Desmond, who registered at the Ogwashi-Ukwu centre in Aniocha South, urged INEC to assign more staff to the centres to help speed up the registration.

  1. When you go to banks where cards have financial implications, ATM cards are issued promptly, but a voter’s card could take days to be issued. What an irony!
