Insecurity In Abraka: Ogedegbe urges residents to remain calm, Govt fully on top of the situation

Executive Chairman, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Hon Augustine Ogbedegbe, has reacted to the recent incident during the anti-kidnapping protest in Abraka, just as he assured that the state government was fully on top of the situation.

Ogbedegbe in a statement on Tuesday, urged residents in the area to remain calm and law-abiding during this challenging period.

The statement reads in part: “I wish to formally address the regrettable incident that occurred yesterday in Abraka during the Anti-Kidnapping protest organized by our vibrant student community, respected Human Rights Activists, and concerned Community Members.

“Reports confirm that, in the course of this demonstration, an altercation ensued between some protesters and security personnel, resulting in injuries to a number of individuals. the security and well-being of every citizen is the paramount concern of this administration.

“We deeply empathize with those affected and wish them a speedy recovery.

“As your Chairman, I assure you that immediate steps are being taken in close collaboration with relevant security agencies to beef up surveillance and maintain law and order throughout Ethiope East.

“We are committed to restoring calm and ensuring a safe, secure environment for our people.

“Let me reiterate: while we respect the right of citizens to peaceful assembly and expression, we must all eschew violence and any action that may undermine public peace.”

According to him, “the Local Government is actively engaging all stakeholders, including student leaders, community representatives, and security agencies to ensure that grievances are addressed responsibly and that further escalation is prevented.”

“Rest assured, we will continue to prioritize proactive measures to combat criminality, including kidnappings, and will spare no effort in safeguarding lives and property,” he said.

Furthermore, the council boss called on all parties to remain peaceful, cooperate with lawful authorities, and allow government the necessary space to bring issues of concern to a lasting resolution.”

“Thank you for your understanding and continued commitment to the peace and progress of our Local Government,” Ogbedegbe concluded.
