International Accountants’ Day: ANAN Asaba Branch Hosts Enlightening Seminar

As part of activities marking the upcoming International Accountants’ Day on Monday, November 10, the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Asaba branch, organized a one-day seminar to enlighten its members on the theme “Driving Sustainable Impact through Accountable Policy Implementation.”

The event, held at the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba, also featured informative sessions on health and local agricultural practices.

Members of the association expressed their appreciation for the presence of Mrs. Prisca Idama, Acting Chairman of the Delta State Forum of Accountants the umbrella body for accountants across the state.

Speaking on behalf of the Branch Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Omamerhi-Chukwurah, FCNA, the Vice Chairman, Rev. Chiedu Williams, FCNA, described the seminar as a motivating prelude to the main event International Accountants’ Day, celebrated globally every November 10.

The seminar was chaired by Dr. (Mrs.) Biwi Theodora, Bursar of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba. Also present at the high table were the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Rev. Morgan Odiwe, FCNA, alongside other executive members of the branch: the Secretary-General, Rev. Jude Okeleke; Treasurer, Mr. Victor Ilide; Assistant Secretary-General, Mrs. Nancy Ogeleka; PRO, Mr. Paul Enwa; and Mr. Clement Basime. The Chairperson of the Professional Women Accountants of Nigeria (PROWAN), Mrs. Tosan Erikpara, and Mrs. Edosowan Scholastica were also in attendance, among others.

The event kicked off with an insightful lecture on practical agricultural practices for civil servants, delivered by Dr. Avwevrosuo Okorodudu of the Delta State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He educated ANAN members on simple, home-based methods for maintaining seedlings and cultivating crops like cucumbers and other vegetables, as well as fish farming and integrated pest management. Participants such as Mr. Edirin Edwin Agbahovibe, Rev. Jude Okeleke, Mrs. Ola Ibrahim, and Itobore Martha engaged actively by asking questions during the session.

The second lecture focused on stress management and was presented by Mrs. Ebenezer Precious and Mrs. Ochei Esther. They discussed ways to identify, manage, and overcome stress, including the importance of proper time management. The speakers recommended getting 7–8 hours of sleep daily and maintaining adequate water intake three litres for men and 2.7 litres for women. They also led participants through a short breathing exercise and divided them into groups to discuss how they would handle a situation where a computer crashes while working on a task due within 24 hours. Group leaders, including Eta Gladys and Ifeanyi Isioma Precious, emphasized that honesty and communication are key in such situations.

The final lecture, themed “Driving Sustainable Impact through Accountable Policy Implementation,” was delivered by Mr. Victor Ilide. He spoke extensively about effective strategies for integrating sustainability into research and related practices.

In a chat with The Pointer, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Morgan Odiwe, praised the Branch Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Chukwurah, FCNA, as well as the National President of ANAN and Chairman of Council, Chief (Hajia) Zuwairat Talatu Kishimi, FCNA, for their support and leadership. He noted that ANAN has consistently taken the lead in celebrating International Accountants’ Day each year, using the occasion to promote global awareness of the accounting profession.
