Delta State is getting ready for another round of fuel shortages as members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) have announced an indefinite strike starting on Monday, September 8, 2025.
This decision was made after an emergency meeting on Saturday, where both unions agreed to close all filling stations across Delta State beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, and keep them closed until they get more instructions from their national leaders.
In a message sent to fuel marketers, the unions warned that any station found open during the strike will be fined ₦1 million.
The message said: “Following an emergency meeting today, September 6, 2025, IPMAN and NUPENG have agreed that from Monday, September 8, 2025, all filling stations must remain closed until further directions are given by our national leadership.
“Any station found operating will be fined ₦1 million. Please share this message widely, as harm to one is harm to all.”
This action is expected to cause fuel supply issues in Delta State and might also impact other parts of the South-South region, since petroleum marketers often support each other during strikes like this.
