Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Friday Ovoke Warri, has called on young people to channel their energies into sporting activities to secure brighter futures.
Warri gave the charge over the weekend while commissioning a new basketball court at Isoko Central School, Oleh, the council headquarters. He stressed that sports offer a path to self-reliance, noting Delta State’s track record of producing national and international sports stars who continue to make the state and country proud.
The project, spearheaded by the Oleh Progressive Minds Association (OPMA) under the leadership of Paul Ogba, aims to provide disadvantaged youths with access to quality sports infrastructure, mentorship, and educational support.
Ogba described the court as a platform for building discipline, dignity, and service, aligning with Millennium Development Goals on education, empowerment, and community development.
He urged youths to make the most of the facility, saying, “This is more than a basketball court. It is a symbol of hope and a platform for young people to chase their dreams.”
The ceremony featured training sessions, exhibition games, and goodwill messages from community leaders and partners.
Warri was joined by other local government officials, including Bright Abizire Olokor, Zino Osuofa, Efe Okolosi-Ozoro, and Onoride Obeuwou.
