Isoko Youth Leaders Reject INEC’s Warri Delineation Exercise

The Isoko Political Youth Leaders of Thought (ISOPLOT) has demanded the complete cancellation of the recent ward delineation exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Warri Federal Constituency, cautioning that this action might jeopardize the long-established ethnic harmony within the Delta South Senatorial District.

During a press conference on Monday in Asaba, the organization voiced its significant worries regarding what it termed a deliberate effort to manipulate the political framework of the district to benefit one ethnic group in anticipation of the 2031 gubernatorial elections.

Representing the organization, ISOPLOT Chairman, Comrade Daniel Omoraro, asserted that if the delineation exercise is permitted to persist, it could undermine the political equilibrium that has been maintained in the Delta South Senatorial District, potentially reigniting tensions among the area’s three primary ethnic groups: the Isoko, Itsekiri, and Ijaw, collectively known as the “Three I’s.”

“The ward delineation activity in Warri metropolis has deviated into a situation that, if not revoked or better handled by the Federal Government, could lead to a collapse of the peace that has existed in the region for several decades,” Omoraro remarked.

He claimed that certain political figures were strategically weakening the present ethnic power-sharing system by advocating for boundary adjustments that benefit one group, cautioning that the Isoko people, in particular, face the greatest risk if the current “arrangement” remains intact.

“This initiative is aimed at dominance, and Isoko is most impacted. Should it succeed, the level playing field that could allow for Isokos to produce a governor would be compromised,” he stated.

The pan-Isoko political group underscored that any effort to politically alienate one of the ‘Three I’s’, particularly the Itsekiri, who they perceive as being specifically targeted, would ultimately undermine the foundation of mutual respect and collaboration that has supported peace in the Niger Delta for many years.

The organization urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the National Security Adviser, and INEC to: “Abolish the delineation exercise in Warri, closely oversee political developments in Delta South and the Niger Delta, maintain the ethnic equilibrium that has ensured regional stability, and discourage political positions and partnerships that aim to marginalize any ethnic group.”

ISOPLOT also called on their Urhobo “brothers and sisters” to avoid being manipulated as tools in what they termed divisive political schemes, reminding them of their cultural and linguistic connections with the Isoko people.

“It is unjust that certain individuals within their ranks are being utilized as instruments in this orchestrated plan to disrupt the peace,” the statement declared.

The group additionally cautioned that any Isoko individual opposing their position should be seen as acting against the collective interests of the Isoko Nation and as a threat to the cohesion of Delta South.
