Itsekiri Youth Council Raises Alarm over Death of SOS Commander

The Itsekiri National Youth Council (INYC) has expressed serious concern over the killing of SOS Commander Kunu Liberty in Sapele, Delta State, and is demanding an independent probe into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Reports indicate that Liberty was killed after being invited by the Divisional Police Officer in Sapele.

In a statement, the council dismissed claims that Liberty died during a shootout between police officers and vigilante members, noting that there were no reports of injuries, arrests, or other casualties that would support such a narrative.

Speaking on the matter, INYC President, Comrade Appearance Afejuku, said while the group supports legitimate security operations, it strongly condemns extrajudicial killings. He added that the deaths of Itsekiri youths allegedly involving security agencies have become disturbingly frequent.

The council therefore called on the Inspector-General of Police to constitute a high-level investigative panel to uncover the truth, identify those responsible, and ensure that justice is served.
