Delta State Commissioner for Works, Highways and Urban Roads, Comrade Reuben Izeze, says continuous training is critical to delivering durable and sustainable road infrastructure in the state.
He spoke Tuesday in Asaba, during a meeting with Zonal and Superintendent Engineers of the ministry. The commissioner noted that modern engineering is evolving rapidly, and staying updated with new technologies and global best practices is no longer optional.
He said regular professional development will improve project delivery time, road durability, safety standards, and cost efficiency.
Comrade Izeze also reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration to professionalism, accountability, and value for money under the state’s MORE Agenda.
He stressed that the Governor’s MORE Agenda for Delta, including the MORE Infrastructure Plan, focuses on building a skilled workforce capable of meeting modern road construction demands.
The Commissioner urged engineers to carry out physical inspections at project sites, instead of depending only on GPS or digital data.

He also called for strict compliance with project specifications, and the timely completion of all ongoing road projects, especially with the state heading into an election year.
On staff welfare, Comrade Izeze assured ministry engineers of better working conditions, saying productivity improves when workers are well supported. In his words, “If you are excellent at what you do, I know how best to showcase and support my people.”
The meeting had in attendance the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Engineer Mrs. Juliet Aboloje, the Commissioner’s Special Assistant Technical, Engineer Ejovi Adasen, Director of Highways, Engineer Solomon Aghagba, Director of Urban Roads, Engineer Victor Oputa, and other senior officials.
