The Headquarters 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Akwa Ibom State, says it has commenced investigations into the alleged killing of a 13-year old minor, Timothy Daniel, by a soldier on January 1, 2026 in Ette Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The Army in a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters two Brigade, Uyo Akwa Ibom State, Captain Lawal Bala Muhammad, said in line with standard procedures, the Nigerian Army immediately instituted an investigation to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
He said the investigation was currently ongoing, and no findings or conclusions have been reached at this stage.
“Accordingly, the Nigerian Army urges the general public to refrain from speculation or commentary that may prejudice the investigative process.
“The outcome of the investigation will be made public upon its conclusion, in accordance with extant laws and regulations.”
The Nigerian Army sympathized with the family and loved ones of Timothy Daniel and commiserates with them over the loss.
“The Nigerian Army expresses its sincere sympathy and condolences to the family and loved ones of Timothy Daniel and commiserates with them over their loss. We pray for the repose of his soul,” the statement noted.
He further said that the Nigerian Army appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the general public and reiterates its unwavering commitment to professionalism, strict adherence to the rules of engagement, and accountability in the conduct of its personnel.
Daniel, 13, was allegedly shot dead by a soldier attached to a company in Ette, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, for reportedly attempting to stop the soldier from molesting his 15-year-old sister, Miracle Daniel.
