Koka Traffic Chaos: Delta State Moves Against Illegal Loading, Street Trading

The Delta State Government has issued a stern warning to motorists and street traders operating around the Koka area of Asaba, urging them to stop parking along the roadside to load passengers and to put an end to all forms of street trading in the area.

The Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, said a special committee has been directed to ensure that the Koka axis remains free of street traders and indiscriminate loading activities.

Agofure, who was represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Directorate of Transport, Engr. Victor Omoniyi, led the Inter-Ministerial Committee to enforce the directive. He stressed that drivers must use only designated motor parks to load their vehicles, noting that this is essential for passenger safety and for maintaining orderly traffic flow in the state capital.

He added that using approved parks for boarding is part of the government’s broader effort to keep Asaba clean, safe, and well-organized.

Also speaking, the Director of Urban Development in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, Mr. Okoro Godwin who represented his commissioner expressed the government’s displeasure over the misuse of public infrastructure. He advised residents to handle government facilities responsibly and warned that dropping off passengers along busy roads endangers lives and must stop immediately.

Godwin further appealed to motorists to make use of designated parks for picking up and dropping off passengers, emphasizing that doing so promotes orderliness and minimizes accidents on major roads.

The Delta State Government reiterated its commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and well-coordinated environment for both residents and visitors in Asaba.
