A tragic event has plunged the Koko community in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State into mourning after the suspected murder of a young woman named Egwolo, who is believed to be a student at Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara.
Multiple local sources report that Egwolo, thought to be in her early twenties and originally from Owakwa village in Ughelli South Local Government Area, was found dead in a hotel room under suspicious circumstances.
Contrary to earlier social media rumors claiming the victim was beheaded, the Public Enlightenment Officer of the Delta State Ministry of Information clarified that Egwolo was actually stabbed to death. “She was not beheaded as some have speculated. That report is false. She was found with a stab wound,” the official explained.
Residents who spoke with reporters described the incident as both heartbreaking and shocking. “She should be around twenty or twenty-one years old. It’s so painful to see such a promising life end like this. We just hope those responsible are brought to justice,” one resident said.
Another source, known only as MoG, claimed that the young woman was lured to Koko by a man believed to be her “sugar daddy,” who reportedly owns both a transportation company and the hotel where the tragic incident took place.
According to this account, the man spent some time with her after she arrived but then left for his home in the same community. “We heard that when he returned the next morning to check on her, he found her lying lifeless in a pool of blood with a stab wound on her neck,” the source shared.
An eyewitness also said that the hotel receptionist on duty fled the scene after the owner discovered the horrifying sight, adding to the suspicion surrounding the circumstances of the murder.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Koko Division, Lukman Olaogun, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing. “The investigation is currently underway, ma’am. We assure you that justice will be served soon,” he said.
At the time of reporting, the young woman’s body had been taken to the Koko General Hospital mortuary, while detectives continued working to uncover those responsible for the crime.
Residents of the Koko community have appealed to the Delta State Police Command and other relevant authorities to carry out a thorough investigation and swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.
