Lagos-Based Referee Akintoye Set for WAFCON Duty in Morocco

Nigerian referee Yemisi Eunice Akintoye has been chosen as one of the 18 officials by CAF to officiate at the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to be hosted in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.

Akintoye, associated with the Lagos State Football Referees Council, secured her position due to her outstanding performance during the recent WAFCON preparatory course held in Cairo, Egypt.

This course included extensive technical assessments, fitness evaluations, and decision-making exercises carried out in match-like scenarios.

Her selection is a significant achievement in her refereeing career, placing her among the elite referees from across the continent, including well-known individuals like Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga.

Having received her FIFA referee badge in 2021, Akintoye has officiated at prestigious tournaments such as the WAFU Women’s Champions League and the CAF Women’s Champions League.
