Landlord Allegedly Killed Over ₦1,500 Electricity Dispute in Delta Community

Shock and grief have enveloped Boji-Boji Owa in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State following the alleged killing of a landlord, Mr. Lucky Obaze, by one of his tenants after a disagreement over an electricity bill of ₦1,500.

The incident, which occurred within a residential compound in the area, has sparked outrage among residents and renewed concerns over rising cases of violent disputes over minor issues.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the disagreement began when Mr. Obaze approached the tenant to collect the outstanding electricity bill. The tenant, who reportedly shared a single-room apartment with his brother, engaged the landlord in a heated argument.

Witnesses said the confrontation initially ended when Mr. Obaze withdrew from the scene and returned to his upstairs apartment. However, moments later, the tenant allegedly returned and attacked the landlord with a knife. Mr. Obaze sustained serious injuries and was later confirmed dead.

Confirming the incident, the Delta State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, said two suspects are connected to the alleged crime. He disclosed that the suspects fled the area immediately after the incident and are currently being sought by the police.

Edafe stated that an investigation has commenced to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the killing and to track down those responsible. He assured members of the public that the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.

The tragic incident has left residents of Boji-Boji Owa in mourning, with many expressing disbelief that a disagreement over such a small amount could escalate into a fatal encounter. Community members have called for calm while urging authorities to ensure swift justice.

The killing has also reignited calls for peaceful conflict resolution and greater awareness of the dangers of allowing disputes to spiral out of control, especially within residential communities.
