As part of its ongoing awareness and education programme for local government workers and retirees, the Bureau of Local Government Pensions visited Ughelli North Local Government and the Local Government Education Authority (LEA) on Thursday.
The delegation was led by the Bureau’s Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Igo, accompanied by the Bureau Secretary, Mr. Frank Atube, senior officers, a representative of the National Pensions Commission (NPC), Mr. Chidi Okafor, and delegates from several Pension Fund Administrators operating in Delta State.
At the local government headquarters in Ughelli, the Vice Chairman of the council, Chief Mrs. Meg Atano, welcomed the delegation and stressed the importance of the exercise. She noted that regular sensitization helps workers and retirees understand the necessary steps to take before and after retirement, ensuring timely access to their entitlements.
She added that the initiative aligns with the “Renewed Hope for More” agenda of Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who has consistently shown dedication to the welfare of workers and retirees across the state.
“I am also a retiree. I know my PFA, which is Trust Fund, and I receive my entitlements monthly without delay. This is commendable. Exercises like this help workers understand what to do before retirement, rather than scrambling after they retire. It is a very welcome development,” she said.
In his response, the Bureau Secretary, Mr. Frank Atube, thanked local government chairmen and JAAC members for supporting and approving the programme. He highlighted Ughelli North Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, for being an active advocate for the sensitization programme during JAAC meetings and other Bureau initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare of workers and retirees.
The sensitization team had earlier visited Ughelli South on Wednesday and Udu Local Government on Tuesday as part of the ongoing outreach.
