Man Allegedly Stabs Brother to Death

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a herder who allegedly stabbed his younger brother to death in Ogwashi-Uku community, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, said the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of January 8, 2025. According to him, the victim was attacked while he was asleep. Edafe further disclosed that the suspect is believed to be a drug user.

He explained that at about 7:31 a.m. on the same day, officers at the Ogwashi-Uku Police Division received a distress report indicating that a 20-year-old man, identified as Umaru Haman, had been stabbed to death at around 3:20 a.m. at Poly Road, near Adaigbo Filling Station.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogwashi-Uku Division, CSP Israel Okoyomon, immediately mobilized detectives to the scene to assess the situation and commence investigations. Preliminary findings revealed that the deceased was allegedly attacked by his own brother, Aliyu Haman, also 20 years old, who is a herder and suspected to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

The suspect was promptly apprehended, and the weapon allegedly used to commit the crime was recovered by the police. The body of the deceased was evacuated from the scene and deposited at Odua Mortuary in Ogwashi-Uku for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Mr. Edafe stated that the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, assuring the public that the Command is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all necessary legal procedures are followed.
