Man electrocuted on power line in Ughelli, Delta State not our staff - BEDC

The management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) PLC has denied reports alleging that one of its staff was electrocuted while carrying out repairs on a 33kVA line in Evwreni community, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State.

The incident occurred on Monday.

BEDC management in a statement issued in Benin on Tuesday, noted that the yet-to-be-identified electrocuted man entered BEDC network illegally.

In the statement, the Business Manager (Ughelli), Engr. Femi Makun, and the Regional Safety Officer (Warri Region), Mr. Solomon Eghwere, confirmed that the electrocuted person was not a staff of BEDC.

The unidentified person was said to have entered into BEDC network illegally, and, while on the pole, power was suddenly restored to the feeder and he was electrocuted.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was a non-BEDC staff and that his corpse had been taken away, possibly for burial, by sympathizers and community people,” BEDC said.
