Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to inclusive, people-centred governance, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration between government agencies and community-based media organisations.
Represented by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the governor delivered the message at the Nigeria Development Summit organised by the Federated Union of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (FUCNPN).
The event, held at the NUJ Secretariat in Asaba, brought together media leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders.
Speaking on the theme “Enhancing Collaborative Initiatives for Transformative Growth and Development of Nigeria,” Oborevwori stressed that sustainable national progress relies on collective effort and amplified grassroots participation.
He described community newspapers as essential tools for strengthening public awareness and deepening democratic accountability.
He commended local publishers for their resilience amid economic challenges and rapid technological shifts, noting that Nigeria’s development should be built through shared responsibility rather than top-down directives.
The governor highlighted his administration’s key priorities—education, healthcare, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and transparent governance.
He encouraged community media to continue spotlighting government programmes while providing constructive scrutiny that supports fair and balanced growth.
Oborevwori also praised FUCNPN for hosting the summit, expressing confidence that the dialogue would inspire innovative solutions and foster cross-sector partnerships. He called for closer cooperation between government and grassroots media to counter misinformation, promote community perspectives, and advance a shared vision of a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
