As part of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to revive Nigeria’s steel sector, the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, visited the Delta Steel Plant (Premium Steel & Mines Ltd) in Aladja, Delta State.
Accompanied by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Chris Osa Isokpunwu, on Thursday, the Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to resuscitating the dormant plant, urging management to fast-track their proposed 24-month timeline to 18 months.

The plant, which last produced steel in 2021, has the capacity to generate 1 million metric tonnes of liquid steel annually and create over 15,000 jobs. Prince Audu emphasized the plant’s strategic value, given its location, electric arc furnace technology, and access to sea and rail links.
The Minister noted President Tinubu’s resolve to reposition the steel sector as a pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda and a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Speaking further, the Premium Steel’s Vice Chairman, Mahesh Vaswani, and MD, Sahil Vaswani, reaffirmed their commitment but highlighted the urgent need for government support, especially raw material supply.
The visit also included inspections of the company’s CSR projects – a technical high school, primary school, and hospital.
This engagement follows recent federal steel sector initiatives, including plant launches in Lagos and Ogun States, signaling a strong national push toward industrial revival.
