National Youth Games: Faye Emerges National Youth Champion as Team Bayelsa Boost Medal Haul

Team Bayelsa enjoyed a remarkable outing on Day 6 of the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, recording impressive performances across athletics, combat sports, and board games.

The highlight of the day came from athletics, where Perfect Faye stormed to victory in the boys’ 100m final. Clocking 11.11 seconds, Faye edged out Lagos sprinter Emmanuel Akolo to clinch gold.

The win sets the stage for an exciting showdown in the 200m event, rekindling a rivalry that dates back to their representation of Team Nigeria at the African School Games in Algeria.

In combat sports, Emmanuel Sunday shone in the male 35kg Judo category, delivering another gold medal for Bayelsa. Meanwhile, in Kungfu, Epowede Magnate Bolou-Yei displayed courage and skill but settled for silver, while Precious John secured a bronze medal in golf.

The momentum continued in board games as Team Bayelsa’s chess players earned valuable points to boost the state’s medal haul. On the basketball court, the male team cruised into the semifinals after defeating Team Kano 12–7, though their female counterparts fell just short in an 8–7 loss to the same opponents.
