The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has rolled out a free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle conversion training programme aimed at empowering youths across the Niger Delta with relevant technical skills for the evolving energy and transportation sector.
The initiative is designed to train young people in the conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to operate on CNG, a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative fuel.
According to the Commission, the programme aligns with national efforts to promote sustainable energy use, reduce carbon emissions and lower transportation costs for individuals and businesses.
The NDDC said the training will equip participants with hands-on, marketable skills, positioning them for employment and entrepreneurship in the growing autogas industry. By building local expertise in CNG technology, the Commission expects the programme to stimulate job creation, strengthen the regional transport sector and increase the availability of skilled technicians across the nine oil-producing states.
Beyond economic benefits, the Commission noted that the initiative would also support environmental sustainability by encouraging the adoption of cleaner fuel options and reducing reliance on conventional petrol.
The programme is open to Niger Delta indigenes between the ages of 18 and 35 who possess relevant educational or technical qualifications. Interested applicants are required to apply online through the official NDDC skills portal at skills.nddc.gov.ng within ten days of the announcement.
The Commission clarified that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for documentation and verification, adding that beneficiaries of previous NDDC skills acquisition programmes are not eligible to apply.
The NDDC described the training as part of its broader commitment to youth empowerment, skills development and inclusive economic growth in the Niger Delta, stressing that initiatives such as this are critical to preparing young people for opportunities in emerging and future-focused industries.
