A high-ranking official from the NFF has suggested that Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface could be removed from Nigeria’s senior national team due to his recent statements in which he criticized the commitment of his teammates during international competitions.
In a podcast interview held last week, Boniface voiced his concerns about the attitude of certain teammates while representing the nation, indicating that they appear unfazed by the results of the matches.
“When some of my teammates arrive for national duty, they act as if it doesn’t matter whether we win or lose,” Boniface stated on The Culture League podcast.
“I always remind them that we have millions in Nigeria, and I believe we are the most populous country in Africa.”
In reaction, a representative from the NFF board noted that they have acknowledged the interview and have directed head coach Eric Chelle to implement disciplinary actions against the 24-year-old, which may lead to his exclusion from the team.

Chelle reportedly expressed strong discontent with the interview, particularly from a player whose dedication has previously been questioned due to his performance in the latest match against Russia, which finished in a 1-1 draw.
The NFF, for its part, is pushing for his removal from the squad owing to the disruption his comments have caused among players, following conversations with several senior team members. They seek to encourage a cohesive and united team as they head into crucial stages of the World Cup qualifiers.
