NFF President Gusau Challenges NNL on New Promotion Process

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has requested a reassessment of the current promotion process from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), voicing his concerns regarding the existing Super 8 playoff system.

‎During the Annual General Meeting of the NNL held in Kaduna, Gusau urged club administrators and stakeholders to collaborate and devise a more effective and competitive format that ensures fairness for all clubs aiming to ascend to the top tier.

‎”I’m no longer satisfied with how teams qualify for the NPFL through the Super 8 playoff,” the NFF president stated. “I encourage all of you to brainstorm together and propose a better solution, then report back to us.”

‎In a significant advancement for the second-tier league, Gusau also disclosed a new sponsorship agreement with BetPawa, which includes direct financial benefits for players and officials.

‎He mentioned that starting from the upcoming season, victorious teams will receive immediate bonuses for both players and staff.

‎”We now have BetPawa as one of the sponsors of the NNL for the new season,” Gusau announced. “If a club wins a match, the 20 players who participated in that match and 5 officials will each receive a match bonus of ₦56,000, no later than an hour after the game, thanks to BetPawa.”

‎This initiative is anticipated to enhance players’ motivation and increase competitiveness within the league, as the NNL strives to establish itself as a robust foundation for Nigerian football.
