NFF President Gusau Visits Rashid Yekini Mainbowl, Commends Gov. AbdulRazaq as Ilorin Stadium Nears CAF Standard

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has commended Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the ongoing renovation and upgrading of George Agbazika Innih Stadium.

He equally commended the State FA, being led by Alhaji Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya, for showing quality leadership that is turning things around for good.

Alhaji Gusau, who visited and inspected the stadium today, Saturday, November 29, 2025, expressed delight with the level of work done so far, charging that the quality should be sustained ahead of the inspection by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

I am happy to be here in Kwara State. On many occasions, I tried to talk to the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, about this, because we don’t need to continue to have substandard stadiums, especially in Kwara State

He listened to us, and today I am here to see what is going on. The Chairman of the FA, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya do give us updates, but that’s not enough. I have to come and see things for myself.

He surveyed the refurbished dressing rooms, inspected the upgraded pitch, medical bay, VIP stand, media tribune, post-match conference room, and others, and declared, “What I saw filled me with genuine optimism: a stadium renewed, not just in structure, but in spirit. The earlier criticisms of dilapidation seemed to vanish under fresh paint, smooth seats, and modern facilities.

I am happy with all I have seen, and when this job is completed, I will need to come back here together with the Governor to inspect, commend, and thank him for listening to us, and doing the right thing.

Kwara deserves to have the best because Kwara is the home of football. The key thing is that he follows us and owes us a duty to ensure that CAF comes here to do their inspection, and give their blessings.

When that is done, I assure the people of Kwara that national teams will come back here to play. That’s one of the benefits.

This stadium is now worthy. If we meet the technical requirements, there is no reason Nigeria’s national competitions, even continental matches, should not come back to Ilorin.”

Alhaji Gusau also took the opportunity to visit the Kwara SWAN Secretariat, where he praised Nottingham Forest star, Taiwo Awoniyi, for constructing a befitting Secretariat for the sports writers in the state.

Gusau commended the Chairman of Kwara FA, Thuraya, who took him round the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl of the stadium, tagging him as ‘a committed leader’ who showed great concern for grassroots football development.
