Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has reiterated his administration’s dedication to fostering grassroots football, emphasizing that establishing a sustainable football framework must start from the base level.
During the Nigeria National League (NNL) Monthly Awards ceremony held in Abuja, Gusau asserted that enduring football success can only be realized through investment in grassroots initiatives and related leagues, which he termed the “cornerstone for the future” of the sport in Nigeria.
“You can’t construct a building starting from the top,” Gusau remarked. “A major focus of my administration is to revitalize grassroots football.

After two and a half years in office, we are starting to witness concrete advancements. By the conclusion of our term, Nigerians will observe even more significant improvements in our domestic football.”
The NFF President praised the organizers of the NNL Awards, stating that such efforts are essential for encouraging excellence and recognizing remarkable achievements across all levels of the sport.
“Awards of this nature are vital for motivating players, coaches, and administrators. They elevate performance standards and foster a culture of achievement, which is crucial for the advancement of football in Nigeria,” he added.
