NIPOST seal eight illegal courier, logistics offices in Delta

Operatives of NIPOST Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department have sealed eight courier and logistics offices, allegedly operating unlicensed/ illegal courier business in Asaba, and its environs in Delta State.

The Enforcement team comprised the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon, Lagos, and armed police officers from Delta State police Command.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the clampdown exercise, General Manager, Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD), NIPOST, Mr. Shonde Gideon, said they were sealed for operating their businesses without obtaining a grant of operating licence from NIPOST as stipulated by the extant laws.

“It is also a crime against the state to operate in a space that is regulated without registration and licence. This clampdown is in line with the statutory provision of Section 43(1, 2 and 3), NIPOST ACT, Cap127, LFN 2004, and Regulatory Operational Guide 2023,” he said.

Gideon expressed disappointment over the development as many courier operators openly engaged in unlicensed/ illegal courier and logistics operations with reckless abandon, ethical standards and professional conduct.

He frowned at the attitude of those who were involved in postal courier and logistics proliferation and infiltration.

According to him, the unethical sharp practices such as price undercutting, broaching, damages, loss and dumping of customers items, poaching and subletting of operating licence with numerous public complains about customer’s packages being duped or obtaining money from them under false pretenses, with no traceable office address nor registered brand name.

Gideon advised interested private investors in the courier and logistics business to follow due process by obtaining a grant of operating licenses from the Federal Government,” noting that no one has the right to operate an illegal courier and logistics business, nationwide.
