The Asaba Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has stepped up its push for professionalism and ethical behavior among its members, placing strong emphasis on regular attendance at branch clinics as essential for career advancement and staying relevant in the industry.
At a well-attended clinic session in Asaba, members were reminded that true professionalism is not just about titles or certifications, but about consistent behavior, a commitment to continuous learning, and active involvement in branch activities.
Speaking at the event, the chapter’s Chairman, Mr. Godfrey Osakwe, stressed the importance of discipline in every aspect of professional life. He noted that attending monthly clinics and participating in branch programmes are vital for keeping up with developments in the ever-evolving communications field.
He also spoke about preparations for an upcoming national programme in Kaduna, describing it as an important opportunity for networking, learning, and increasing professional visibility. While encouraging members to attend, he advised those who may be unable to go to ensure they access relevant materials to stay informed.
Osakwe further urged members to take responsibility for their own professional growth by building strong personal brands, developing specialised skills, and keeping up with emerging trends in public relations.
“Professionalism isn’t something you practice once in a while—it’s an ongoing responsibility. Stay informed, follow trends, and position yourselves as credible professionals in your fields,” he said.
In a more direct message, Distinguished Fellow, Elder Emmanuel Ogidi, called for greater discipline and seriousness among practitioners. He emphasized that punctuality, regular attendance at clinics, and active participation in institute activities are basic expectations for any committed professional.
While he commended members for their turnout and appearance, he cautioned against complacency, stressing that consistency is what truly defines professionalism. He encouraged members to treat each clinic as an opportunity to learn, improve, and contribute to the institute’s growth.
“Let’s be intentional about our commitment. Attend clinics regularly, be punctual, and reflect the values of this profession in everything you do. That’s how we build credibility and earn respect,” he advised.
The session also reviewed the chapter’s recent participation in the International Women’s Day celebration in Warri. Members expressed satisfaction with the institute’s presence and impact, while calling for stronger collaboration with agencies like the NDLEA to tackle pressing social issues such as drug abuse.
New members were officially welcomed into the institute, with the Chairman reminding them that induction is just the beginning of a lifelong learning journey, not the end.
Certificates were presented to the newly inducted members during the session, highlighting the institute’s commitment to developing skilled, ethical, and forward-thinking public relations professionals.
The clinic ended with a renewed commitment from members to uphold high professional standards through discipline, continuous learning, and active participation in all activities of the NIPR Asaba Chapter.
