NIPR Delta Seeks Partnership with Police to Tackle Youth Vices

The Delta State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has expressed its willingness to work closely with security agencies to promote youth reorientation, good governance, and effective public communication throughout the state. This pledge was made during a courtesy visit by the NIPR Delta leadership to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Delta State Command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mnipr, at his office in Asaba on Tuesday.

The visit was part of the Chapter’s ongoing stakeholder engagement efforts aimed at strengthening institutional partnerships and highlighting the importance of professional communication in fostering public trust, civic responsibility, and social stability in Delta State.

Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of NIPR Delta, Godfrey C. Osakwe, fnipr, said the delegation visited to formally welcome the Deputy Commissioner to the state and brief him on the Institute’s programmes and activities. He described the engagement as timely and meaningful, particularly given Adejobi’s professional background and shared commitment to the Institute’s goals.

Osakwe noted that the Institute is seeking a sustained partnership with the police command in areas such as ethical communication, advocacy for good governance, and community development. He emphasized that effective communication plays a vital role in shaping public opinion, addressing societal issues, and supporting security agencies in building trust and cooperation with the public.

In his remarks, DCP Adejobi pointed to serious social challenges affecting young people in the state, including drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime, prostitution, and other related vices, which he said threaten peace, security, and sustainable development.

He added that the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations could serve as a strategic partner in addressing these concerns through advocacy, public awareness campaigns, and communication-driven initiatives designed to inspire positive behavioural change and reshape public attitudes.

Adejobi also expressed his readiness to collaborate with the Institute on strategic management and communication training to strengthen policing and law enforcement in line with international best practices, both in Delta State and across the country. He said such collaboration would help narrow the gap between the police and the public while improving institutional communication systems for better service delivery.

Members of the NIPR delegation included Vice Chairman Florence Nwabuonwu; Public Relations Officer and Director General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Olorogun (Barr) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, JP; Treasurer Judith Kuejubola; Ex-Officio Member Joy Ochei; Abel John Gold; and media entrepreneur Sylvester Asoya.

The NIPR Delta State Chapter reaffirmed its dedication to continuous stakeholder engagement in advancing responsible communication, youth development, and a safer, better-informed society.
