Kashifu Inuwa, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has described the proposed National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill 2025 as a “critical enabler” for Nigeria’s digital transformation.
Speaking during a public hearing at the National Assembly Complex, Inuwa explained that the bill is a major step toward building a strong legal and institutional foundation for the country’s digital future.
He noted that the legislation will not only promote innovation and transparency but also ensure that digital growth is inclusive benefiting every sector of the economy and every segment of society.
According to him, effective digital governance is key to restoring public trust and ensuring that citizens can access government services easily and efficiently online. He added that when fully implemented, the framework will modernize public administration, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and foster accountability.
The hearing, jointly chaired by Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu and Honourable Adedeji Stanley Olajide, brought together key stakeholders in the ICT sector. Inuwa commended both lawmakers and their committees for their vision and commitment, describing their efforts as timely and forward-looking.
He emphasized that once the bill becomes law, it will serve as the backbone of Nigeria’s digital economy, accelerating national development and positioning the country as a leader in Africa’s tech-driven future.
