At the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC 2025), Dr. Mumuni Dagazau, NNPC Limited’s Executive Vice President, Downstream, delivered a strategic address outlining the company’s path forward amidst the global energy transition. Dagazau’s presentation focused on the necessity of achieving long-term sustainability and full business integration as essential cornerstones for the national oil company’s survival and growth.
Participating in a key industry panel discussing the future trajectory of refining operations worldwide, Dagazau articulated the unique and complex role NNPC Limited must play. He stressed the imperative of balancing the rapidly increasing energy demands across the African continent—a region characterized by significant energy poverty—with the stringent requirements of the global lower-carbon imperative.
The EVP made it clear that the transition is mandatory for continued global participation. “Decarbonisation is no longer an option but a ‘license to operate,'” he asserted, highlighting the new global reality facing all major energy producers. He detailed the intricate balancing act required to manage input costs, secure Nigeria’s energy independence, and meet environmental obligations, all while ensuring that energy supply remains the foremost priority for the Nigerian populace. Dagazau concluded by setting a clear benchmark for the company’s strategic success: the ability to remain “a sustainable, profitable business 20 years from now.”
