NNS Delta presents items worth millions of naira to selected primary schools in Delta

Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta has presented items worth millions of Naira to three selected primary schools in Warri, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta.

Presenting the items, Commodore Abba Muhsin, Commander, NNS Delta said that the gesture was in line with the objectives of Operation Delta Sanity in stemming illegalities in the maritime space.

Commodore Muhsin who was represented by Navy Capt. Solomon Paul, Executive Officer, NNS Delta said that the donation was in line with the Operation Delta Sanity, an anti-crude oil operation launched by the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) in January 2024.

Accordng to Commodore Muhsin, “the Nigerian Navy (NN) directed all units under Operation Delta Sanity to also include some non-kinetic approaches into our fight against illegalities in our waters. Today, NNS Delta choose to conduct Educational Rhapsody.

“We took time to identify some schools in our immediate environment and asked the schools for their immediate needs before taken further steps to address them.”

Commodore Muhsin highlighted the items donated to include submersible Pumps, slasher machines, over head water tanks, generating set, jacking water pump, large quantity of exercise books for pupils and jotters for teachers.

He said that the donation was part of NNS Delta contribution to learning in her immediate communities, he charged the teachers to ensure the pupils excel.

Commodore Muhsin added, “that is why in those exercise books, we itemized crimes within the society that will keep ringing in the heads of the pupils.

“When they keep reading, they will stay away from kidnapping, drug abuse, cultism, stealing and be of good behaviour.”

He also called on the pupils to work hard, take their studies seriously to become useful to their parents and the society at large.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Ejiro Kelvin of the Local Education Authority (LEA), Warri South Local Government Area expressed his appreciation to NNS Delta for the donation, he described the gesture as “very laudable”.

Accordng to Dr. Ejiro, “we are proud to see this kind of things coming to our schools. Other Non Governmental Organisatios (NGOs) and organisations should emulate the king gesture of the Navy to address some of the challenges in our public schools.

He added, “government cannot do it alone. By partnering other organisations, things will be better. All social vices going on in the country can be captured in the primary schools. I thanked NNS Delta for the kind gesture they extended to our schools.”

Also speaking, Mrs. Cecilia Uwarebaye, Head Teacher, Olodi Primary School thanked NNS Delta for the donation and promised that the teachers would give the pupil the best in their academic pursuits.

Mrs. Uwarebaye added, “I am overwhelmed as the head of this school. I thanked NNS Delta for chosing our school among the beneficiaries. We shall do our best in bringing these children up to be better citizens tomorrow because they are the future of the country.”

One of the pupils from Ojojo Primary School, Warri, Miss Mary Praise who was elated over the donations expressed her appreciation to NNS Delta on behalf of her school.

Miss Praise said that she had learnt that cultism, kidnapping, drug abuse and others crimes as spelt out in the exercise books are bad.

Schools that benefited from the kind gesture of NNS Delta are Olodi Primary School, Cavegina Primary School and Ojojo Primary School all in Warri, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
