No Chairman Imposed, Delta APC Tells Aspirants

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has strongly denied claims that a candidate was imposed in the ongoing State Congress, describing the allegations as untrue, deceptive, and politically driven.

In a statement released on Sunday by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq, the party refuted accusations made by State Chairmanship aspirant Ebiakpo Ezebri, who claimed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori influenced the process by imposing a candidate.

According to the APC, no one has been imposed as Chairman of the Delta State chapter. The party said the allegations were intentionally designed to mislead members, create division, and discredit what it maintains is a transparent process guided strictly by the party’s constitution. It emphasized that the claims lack merit and cannot override the clear provisions of the APC Constitution and established democratic procedures.

The party leadership further stated that Governor Oborevwori, as the state’s party leader, has consistently upheld internal democracy, respected party supremacy, and adhered to the rule of law. It insisted that the governor has not interfered with the congress in any way and described efforts to associate him with the controversy as irresponsible and unacceptable.

On the issue of zoning the State Chairman position to Delta South Senatorial District, the APC clarified that the decision was not made by any single individual. Instead, it said the move followed extensive consultations among party leaders, elders, and stakeholders across the three senatorial districts. The party explained that the zoning arrangement reflects its commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, balance, and unity.

It added that leaders and stakeholders from Delta South were solely responsible for identifying and recommending a candidate, noting that their decision was the outcome of broad and independent consultations — not the agenda of any individual.

The APC also dismissed claims suggesting a divide between “old” and “new” members, stressing that every member, regardless of when they joined the party, has the constitutional right to seek leadership positions.

While reaffirming members’ rights to contest, the party cautioned against attempts to twist facts or undermine a legitimate process for personal gain. It assured members that the congress is being conducted in strict compliance with the party’s constitution and national guidelines, with no preferential treatment given to any aspirant.

The party warned against the spread of misinformation and actions that could destabilize its structure, stating that it would not allow baseless accusations or personal grievances to derail efforts to strengthen unity within its ranks.

Urging aspirants and members to act with discipline, maturity, and respect for party supremacy, the APC emphasized that the collective interest of the party must come before individual ambitions.

The Delta APC expressed confidence that the outcome of the congress would reflect the will of stakeholders and further solidify its image as a party rooted in democracy, fairness, and justice. It concluded by reaffirming its commitment to protecting members’ rights and preserving the integrity and credibility of the APC in Delta State.

“APC Renewed Hope for M.O.R.E. Agenda,” the statement concluded.
