The Chairman of Burutu Local Government Area, Honourable Julius Takeme, has appealed to the Federal Government, NDDC, and other Interventionist Agencies to help construct access roads and connect the local government area to the national power grid.
Honourable Takeme made this appeal while playing host to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Newspapers, Prince Joseph Orhomonokpaye, and a delegation of community newspaper publishers at his office in Burutu, Burutu local government area.
Honourable Takeme said lack of access road into Burutu and other communities in the local government area has really hindered rapid development in the area.
He added that Burutu remains the only local government in Delta State that cannot be accessed by land.
Honourable Takeme informed also that electricity is another major challenge in the local government area, adding that the council is giving electricity to most residents with a plant, which has to be fueled on a daily basis.
He stressed that the cost to run electricity and transport to Burutu through water is extremely high, and appealed to the Federal Government, NDDC, and newly established South-South Intervention agency to as a matter of urgency construct access road to the local government, and also connect the local government to the national grid.
The Burutu council boss praised the Delta state Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment, hardwork, and huge infrastructure across the state.
In his address, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Newspapers, Prince Orhomonokpaye commended the Chairman for keying into Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda and implementing impactful projects that directly benefit the people.
He assured the Chairman that the community newspapers under the MORE Agenda platform would continue to provide accurate and factual coverage of the council’s activities.
Prince Orhomonokpaye stressed that Burutu local government area remains one of the most remote and logistically challenging areas in Delta State, and the Chairman’s appeal underscores the urgent need for increased government’s attention to infrastructure development in riverine communities.

The Burutu council boss, took the team on a tour of several completed and ongoing projects in the local government headquarters, highlighting his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure despite existing challenges.
Projects inspected include; a newly constructed road linking the healthcare centre to the major road, a completed public toilet facility for men and women, two functional boreholes, an ongoing construction of a legislative chamber for councillors, a mini-bank attracted through the council’s efforts, a five-bedroom apartment for the magistrates of the Customary Court, road linking the council premises to the major road, approved land for the proposed construction of a new council secretariat, amongst others.
