NOA Sensitises NCoS Personnel, Trainees on Nigerian Identity Project and National Values Charter

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has carried out a comprehensive sensitisation exercise for personnel and trainees of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) on the Nigerian Identity Project and the National Values Charter.

The event was part of NOA’s nationwide efforts to strengthen patriotism, promote shared values, and enhance national consciousness among Nigerians.

The Director-General of NOA, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by the Director of Special Duties and Zonal Coordination, Mr. David Akoji, addressed participants of the 33rd Assistant Superintendent of Corrections (ASC) Basic International Course at the Correctional Staff College, Barnawa, as well as trainees of the Basic Recruitment Training (BRT) 241 at the Correctional Service Training School, Kaduna.

He explained that both the Nigerian Identity Project and the National Values Charter have been approved by the Federal Executive Council and are expected to be formally unveiled by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, the Nigerian Identity Project defines seven core values that represent the true character of Nigerians, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or cultural background.

Issa-Onilu stressed that the Nigerian Promise will guide leadership conduct at all levels, while the Citizens’ Codes outline the expected behaviour of every Nigerian—especially officers of the Correctional Service who serve both as security personnel and reformers.

At the Correctional Staff College, Commandant ACG Soliu Adepoju applauded the initiative as timely and impactful. At the Correctional Service Training School, CC Muhammad Fari said the sensitisation enhances the institution’s goal of producing disciplined officers grounded in integrity and respect for human dignity.

Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, represented by ACC Isyaku Ibrahim, commended NOA for its national enlightenment efforts, noting that the initiative strengthens the service’s mandate of reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration.
