The Chairperson of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Gbenga Elegbeleye, has revealed that the 2025/26 season is set to begin on 22 August 2025 and conclude on 24 May 2026.
He made this announcement during a press conference on Friday, where a review of the recently finished season and expectations for the forthcoming campaign were discussed.
He noted that the choice to follow a fixed calendar underscores the league’s increasing dedication to professionalism, strategic planning, and consistency.
According to him, a stable schedule will allow clubs, players, match officials, and scouts to better organize their activities in relation to the NPFL calendar.
“This marks the first occasion in many years—possibly since the beginning of the new era of the Nigeria Premier Football League in 2005, twenty years ago—that a start and end date will be reliably observed. This is a promise we made and now have fulfilled,” he stated.
