The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that train services along the Ujevwu–Itakpe corridor will resume on Wednesday, October 29, following weeks of temporary suspension to enable critical maintenance and safety checks on the route.
In a statement released over the weekend, the NRC disclosed that online ticket booking will reopen at 12:00 a.m. on Monday, October 27, allowing commuters to secure their seats ahead of the official restart of operations. The reopening is expected to bring relief to regular passengers who rely on the route for travel between Delta, Edo, Kogi, and Abuja.
According to the Corporation, the service will recommence with a seven-coach configuration, consisting of six Standard Class coaches and one Business Class coach, designed to provide passengers with a blend of comfort, affordability, and reliable travel time.
NRC further emphasized that the decision to resume operations was taken after all necessary repair works, system upgrades, and safety validations were completed to ensure a seamless and secure travel experience.
The Ujevwu–Itakpe rail line has, in recent years, become one of the most significant transport arteries for residents of Delta and neighboring states, offering a faster and more cost-effective alternative to road travel—particularly for commuters heading to Abuja and key commercial hubs along the route.
Transport stakeholders have welcomed the announcement, noting that the return of the service will ease inter-state movement and reduce the pressure on major highways. Many passengers are also expected to resume work and business commutes disrupted by the temporary suspension.
The NRC encouraged travelers to use the online booking platform to avoid last-minute rushes at stations and assured the public of continued improvements across rail service corridors nationwide.
