Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has intensified efforts to operationalize the Kwale Special Economic Zone (SEZ), reinforcing the state’s commitment to industrialization, job creation, and strengthened economic competitiveness.
Recent site assessments released by the state government show early construction work underway, including the deployment of large-scale earth-moving equipment and logistics machinery branded by Maersk, one of the world’s largest integrated transport and logistics companies—an indication of active preparatory and partnership-driven groundwork ahead of full project rollout.
The Kwale SEZ builds upon the Kwale Industrial Park concept introduced by former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in 2023.
However, Governor Oborevwori’s administration has restructured and expanded the project blueprint to align with global standards of Special Economic Zones, enhance investor confidence, and accelerate industrial takeoff.
In October 2025, the Governor approved over ₦2 billion in funding to drive the implementation phase, attract anchor investors, and facilitate the establishment of a minimum of six manufacturing and processing industries in the first development cycle.
During recent inspection visits, state officials highlighted the SEZ’s strategic advantages, including proximity to gas infrastructure, major highways, and export-accessible seaports.
The zone is designed to host industries in agro-processing, chemicals, manufacturing, logistics, and energy-related operations—sectors positioned to stimulate value-chain growth across Delta North and beyond.
Governor Oborevwori has consistently maintained that the Kwale SEZ is central to the state’s MORE Agenda, which prioritizes meaningful development, opportunities for youth employment, enhanced economic output, and public sector efficiency.
He affirmed that the industrial hub will not only attract both local and foreign direct investments but also reshape the economic landscape of Delta State by generating thousands of jobs, boosting internally generated revenue, and reducing dependence on federal allocations.
Community leaders, business groups, and development experts have lauded the renewed momentum behind the project, describing it as a vital step toward sustainable industrial growth. With groundwork progressing and investor engagement ongoing, the Kwale Special Economic Zone is positioned to become a major industrial and export hub in southern Nigeria, marking a transformative chapter in Delta State’s economic advancement.
